Establishing fulfilling social interactions are pivotal to a meaningful life. My purpose here is to share with you what I have learnt through my life journey and seek to empower those who are in similar positions.

LOOKING BACK

Whenever the new school year came about, I would sit petrified, as the teacher calls out every student by their register number. Being the last few on the list, the anxiety and fear that gripped my fragile heart was debilitating. I would spend the whole hour running through various scenarios of how the other kids would laugh or make fun of me.

You see, I used to be an obese child.

Standing at a mere 150cm, I weighed in a whooping 68kg. And things only got worse as I continued to balloon through primary school. But at the age of 13, things took a drastic turn.

I LOST 10KG IN A MONTH

This immediately rendered me a “get out of jail” card from the embarrassing ‘Trim and Fit’ sessions where all the exceptionally well nutrition-ed kids had to participate in fitness activities during recess while all the other ‘normal’ kids would eat and maybe watch, and maybe laugh, and maybe mock, and the list goes on.

I plunged into this whirlwind of ecstasy each time i stepped onto the scale and saw quick, visible results. What’s more, friends, family, and people all around me applauded my ‘progress’ and were constantly egging me on what they thought was a journey to a fitter me.

What people did not know, however, was how I would wake up in the morning feeling dizzy and faint, or the number of paracetamol pills I was taking to combat the terrible headache that I had every single day. They did not know that behind every single word of praise, fuelled the drive to do more.

And behind every faint smile, drove a hunger to succeed
- a real hunger that was never satiated.

Although this is a topic that I shy away from, it is a true issue with many other girls out there. (Atypical) anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and orthorexia nervosa are eating disorders that can exist independently AND interdependently. I cycled between all 3 of these, throughout different life phases. But the important thing here is, this is not about me. This is about YOU.  You can change all of this, once you realize that life is a beautiful journey that you should not risk throwing away just because you think you do not fit in.

And this is where I will be here for you. I want you to share with me your thoughts, your struggles, your milestones, and finally, your success.

JUST LIKE ME, I WANT YOU TO FEED THAT HUNGER TO SUCCEED.

...She inspires me to be a fitter, healthier person in general, by how she always schedules in her exercise no matter how busy her day is (even if she has to wake up at the crack of dawn)! Her positive attitude never fails to motivate me, and she’s always pushing me try new things, or patiently guiding me/ correcting me in the gym and in yoga classes, or giving me tips on eating healthy. She’s a really self motivated, hard working person who brightens up the lives of everyone around her!
